A Reader's Assassin
Action, Rom-Com
A witty, fantasy-obsessed, hopeless romantic gets more than she bargains for when her crush turns out to be a highly trained assassin with a heart of gold. As she trains to keep up with his world, sparks fly… but so do bullets, knives and arrows.
Synopsis
Carly Bennett is a bright, but romantically disillusioned, college senior in Washington, D.C., who escapes into fantasy novels while her outgoing roommate, Sydney, urges her to start living in the real world. Carly jokes that only a handsome stranger with a bow and arrow crashing through her window could make life feel exciting - only for that fantasy to come true when a violent fight spills into her apartment.
The chaos is caused by Parker and Ethan, two elite masked operatives from the Young Assassins Society (Y.A.S.), who are hunting one of America’s Most Wanted criminals, Grace Turso, who disappeared after attempting to kill the President years earlier. During the confrontation, Carly is caught in the crossfire but is ultimately saved by Parker, whose bravery and mystery immediately intrigues her.
Later that night, Parker finds Carly shaken and alone, this time presenting himself as an ordinary stranger. The connection between them is instant, and despite the rules of his dangerous world, Parker begins seeing her in secret. As their romance grows, so does the target on Carly’s back.
Rather than run from the danger, Carly asks Parker to train her. In secret, he teaches her how to defend herself, and Carly transforms from a dreamer, waiting for adventure, into a confident young woman, capable of creating her own destiny.
Meanwhile, Grace Turso resurfaces, determined to destroy Parker and Ethan. Her attacks escalate from public ambushes to a final assault at Union Station, where civilians are taken hostage and Parker is critically wounded. Forced to put her training to use, Carly uses everything Parker taught her to help stop Turso and save countless lives.
In the aftermath, Parker survives and chooses to walk away from Y.A.S., rejecting the life that shaped him. Ethan steps into leadership, while Parker and Carly finally choose each other - and the chance at an ordinary future they both fought to earn.
